A few years ago I found a sign that said “Silver White Winters that melt into spring” on the hymns and verses blog. I have had this sign on my to do list for what seems like a few years. Before Christmas I decided that I was going to make 2 of these signs one for Avry as a Christmas present and one for myself.
I looked at the picture of hymns and verses and got to work using supplies that I had on hand. I used a piece of bead board that was already pre-cut to my desired size. I cut the lettering out of vinyl and applied it to the board, then painted over the letting with gray paint and sprinkled glitter on to the paint while it was still wet. I let the paint dry and then began to peel up the vinyl lettering to reveal the bead board below. As I pulled up the lettering it was tearing the paint off in chunks and looked really messy!!! sigh!
I walked away from the project unhappy with the results and let it sit for a month…. You heard me A MONTH! Avry’s birthday is coming up and I know how badly she has wanted one of these cute boards to add to her winter décor. I decided to at least get one of them finished even though I wasn’t happy with the results. I repainted the entire board with gray paint and added more glitter on top of the wet paint.
I decided it needed a frame so, I cut some furring strips and painted them white to make a frame for the sign. I glued the furring strips in place around the bead board with wood glue.
Then I re-cut the saying in white Vinyl “Sliver white winters that melt into spring” this time I decide to change the font to a swirly cursive font. After my board was dry I applied the vinyl saying in the center of the board. Last I Mod Podged over top of the board and let it dry.
I am really happy that I was able to finish the project and make it my own.
