With our annual Halloween party coming up, we are always looking for fun new ideas to create handmade crafty prizes to giveaway. I saw this idea to make striped wreaths over at Pretty Providence, I decided to alter mine and use leftover press board. These wreaths will be a fun addition to our Halloween party prize table.
To create your own wood wreath you will need 1/2″ to 1″ thick wood of your choice. I used a 1″ thick press board to make my wreaths. First create a circle template. Using my personal cutting machine to create a 12″ circle template made it easy. You will trace your circle template onto your wood and then cut out the circle using a jig saw or a scroll saw.
Next you will use a hole saw to cut out the center of your wooden wreath. Follow the traced outline carefully because that will determine how round your wood wreath will be. Then you will sand all edges of your wooden wreath.
Now is the fun part, decorating your wooden wreath. I chose to paint black and white stripes on my wreath, like the wreath idea I saw at Pretty Providence. First I painted my wreath white and allowed the paint to completely dry. After the paint was dry I taped of the stripe pattern using painters tape. I painted in the exposed lines with black paint and then peeled off the painters tape immediately after.
After my striped painted circles were dry, I decided to add different mini pennant banners to each wreath. I cut 5 triangles out of different fabrics and then glued them onto a jute string. I glued the banner onto the wooden wreath and then made junk bows with several ribbons and glued it to one side of the wooden wreath. Last I looped a long ribbon through the center hole to hang the wreath from.
How will you choose to decorate your wooden wreath?
