The $100 Wedding
Joey and Alex’s Wedding
Jocelyn McFarlane is very dear to me. She grew up across the street from me in my old home on Hammon Lane. I was her Young Woman’s leader, I attended musicals she was in, I helped create and had my daughters waitress for a girl’s choice dance, I lent hairspray, She walked across the street often to talk and share her feelings on life. I had her 18th Birthday party at my house. I’ve watched her grow into a beautiful lady. Over the years she has held a special place in my heart. Her mom and dad divorced a year after I had met her and she ended up living with her dad across from us. I love her dad and what an awesome neighbor he always was to us. I told Joey that someday I would help her with her wedding and at the time I never imagined that day would come.
But it did. When she came to me I absolutely knew I got to somehow be a part of her magical day. I watched this young teen meet Alex and over the years watched their love grow. They were such a cute couple from the very start. I remember asking Joey if he was marriage material.. she responded that she was too young to think about that. I laughed because you can never start to young to think about the right boy.
They were sealed for time and all eternity on March 8th. And I was the lucky one to decorate her entire wedding.
This will be a long post so please bare with me!
The old doors were hidden in Mike’s basement (Joey’s dad) So he put some hinges on them to create a backdrop. We made a banner with Joey and Alex’s name across it using just regular paint. Also used a lot of burlap for the shabby chic’ look.
This next area was where her cake resided. I never got a picture of this completed with the cake and all.. so sad! Hopefully I’ll track one down. We took some old Chandeliers that Krystal found at a garage sale a few years ago that she was currently using in her own kitchen and suspended them from the ceiling on ribbon. We used the metal track hooks so there was no damage to the ceiling by using tape or push pins. 🙂 The table included an old window with the saying “Today a Bride, Tomorrow a wife, Forever your little girl” – I felt this saying was appropriate as Joey lived with her father and I know her dad would do ANYTHING for her. He absolutely adores his Joey girl! We added some trunks (from around our houses) and some lanterns. Myself, Krystal and her sister Kishell bought the lanterns 3 years ago at an RC Willey sale for $10 for all 3. So, we were able to use all 9 lanterns to match! The cake sat ontop of the glass pedestal cake stand. With a little burlap banner that read their wedding date. 🙂
Oh the centerpieces. We (Krystal and I) gathered #10 can’s from the cafeteria at her mom’s school. Cleaned them out glued on burlap and thick lace. We took old scraps of bright pink and made rosettes – garnished with pearl strands and tulle. The feathered looking things coming from the centerpiece were probably the number one thing I heard about. Everyone said they loved the idea! The pictures do not do these centerpieces justice. Anyways Krystal and I found the cutest brown feather looking weeds along the sides of the road so we spent 45 minutes cutting down oodles of them. Took them home and spent another few hours spray painting them all and glittering them. They turned out so cute!
This was the dessert table and area – They served frozen yogurt with every topping imaginable! I took pictures BEFORE the event and although I am sad I missed out on a lot of photos during the event I am glad I took some before because I would have forgotten to during the party. The phrase on this old window says “Love is sweet so have a treat” Disclaimer: All old windows were obtained by Mike (Joey’s dad) a few years ago. He got them for free during a building tear down in Salt lake.
This area was set up as you came into the main doors. We used Krystals large chalkboard (which was the top of an old coffee table) We wrote a timeline of their love story. It was seriously cute! The chalkboard on the table was an old painted frame that said “Leave your wishes for the Mr. and Mrs.” I did a few of these frames. The other frame said to “Instagram their wedding using hashtag #mrandmrsfullmer”
The next picture has a lot of meaning for Joey and Alex. While Alex was serving his mission for 2 years there were a lot of letters that came in and out of this mailbox. Joey’s dad ripped it off the stand and gave it to them to have at their wedding! We made a “cards” banner out of burlap and draped it over the mailbox. What was cute is people put cards in the mailbox and at the end of the night Joey and Alex took the whole mailbox with them to take on their honeymoon!
This was her memory table – Pictures of her and Alex on their special day and throughout their courtship. The old phone came from my daughter Maeli’s room. Along with some of the cute Shabby Chic’ décor.
This window was a classic.. It included pictures of the bride and groom and both of their parents wedding pictures and both their sets of grandparents pictures. Loved the history in this piece. Mike matted each picture.
These picket fences were made last summer for Mine and Krystal’s front porches. (I have another post on my blog with them) Krystal made some cute polka dot burlap banners to string across them. Look closely at the cute little Mr & Mrs. Blocks on the star! Little additions like this added so much!
SPARKLER SEND OFF! This was my favorite part of the night. I ordered 20″ wedding sparklers and used this cute printable
I loved that her bridesmaids gathered the buckets at exactly send off time and gave everyone each one. They lined up along the steps outside of the reception and WOW!! I loved how they ran through almost 100 sparklers. It was a darling ending to a perfect day! I would recommend this idea
The chairs were tied in pale pink sashes and a pale pink sash ran down the center of the table. Pom’s were handmade and about 9 or 10 clusters of 6 were hung from the ceiling.
More wedding windows. Pictures of Joey and Alex. All the vinyl on the windows was a gift done by Becky Field (a lady in our neighborhood) she has a large vinyl cutter and can do it a heck of a lot faster than I can on my little cricut! Becky has done NUMEROUS large projects for me. I would recommend her to anyone!
This wedding wishing tree was a 2:00 a.m. the night before the wedding creation. We took one of the wedding centerpiece cans and I poured in cement the day before to keep the large branch standing. It set up within 24 hours. We decorated the branch with little jewels, flowers and tea lights. I thought it turned out kinda cute!
There are so many other little details I have left out and I am sure I may just have to do another blog post to cover all that I have missed.. But for now! Enjoy.
