3 Sisters Snack Shack / Lemonade Stand

I don’t believe in just handing my children money I like to make them earn the things they want in life. My daughter came to me at the beginning of the summer wanting to earn money for her cheerleading outfit and had the idea of a lemonade stand. Every child loves to do a lemonade stand right? So what happens when the children have an overboard craft-a-holic mother and an over ambitious father? This is what my 3 daughters got —

The perfect Lemonade stand. ALthough my crafty side is still wanting to add more and paint it – you know just the overboard stuff that does’nt really matter to a child. My husband works for Frito-lay who is owned by Pepsi Co. so we get chips, nuts, crackers, soda, snacks etc. all at a discounted price. So we created an inventory control sheet so the girls could monitor their inventory. See what is selling the most and of course pay back their debts to their debtors. (aka mom and dad) They can keep what they earn but a small portion goes back to us every time to keep them stocked and keep them supplied with what they need.

My hubby (also every craft woman’s dream man) caught on to the idea and went to town. He covered the outside of the stand in smooth finish beadboard and did the top in a slick piece also so the girls could wipe it down if lemonade got spilled. He put 2 large shelves on the back side so the girls could keep their money, cups, lysol wipes, extra inventory etc. on the shelves. He also built a canopy on the top to give them a little shade.

I added some fun colorful signs on the front that they can hook their specials of the day onto. Somedays they sell bubble gum, somedays popsicles, somedays cinnamon rolls. They change up what they sell to keep the neighbors guessing what they will be having each day! It has been so much fun for them to do and earn some extra money.

I also purchased some clear plastic containers at Wal-mart and added vinyl on the front for the prices of their candy. The kids have fun reaching into the containers to pick out their treats.

My girls decided to call it 3 Sisters Snack Shack and you can find them under that name on facebook. They have started posting their hours and the treats they will be selling for the day on their facebook page! We have had so much fun with this little stand and it has taught my girls a lot of responsibility and the ability to count back cash!
