Quick freezer jam
I love fresh homemade jam, to be honest I am not much of a canner and it actually scares me a bit. It also seems when you are canned a lot of time is spent cooking down the recipe and then processing in finished jars. Maybe someday I will get over this fear and really can my own jam! For now I really love freezing recipes, especially freezer jam! I was at the store this week and they had a flat of strawberries for $7, I love it when I find great deals like this they were less that $1 a pound. I am sure we could have eaten…

Emergency preparedness candle kits Quite a while ago our ward did Emergency preparedness candle kits but I of course didn’t do them that night I was a big procrastinator and just barely got mine done. For these kits you need a wide mouthed canning jar (with lid and ring) 4 candles (like the one in the pictures) you can find these at Wilderness survival gear online for .99 cents each but they go down in price if you buy them in bulk. They are 5″ x 1.5″ candles will burn for 8 to 10 hours. I made 5 jars – one for each level of my home then extra’s just…

Canning Peaches The peaches are ripe and in season! In a town not to far from our’s there are produce stands that line the roads all summer long and as each fruit or vegetable comes into season you can find it for cheap! So on my way back from our annual Labor day weekend at Bear Lake we stopped in this town and picked up my Yams for Thanksgiving, some red potatoes for my grandma’s recipe of creamed peas and potatoes, some onions and a bushel of peaches! Now I do have a peach tree planted but it was the first year producing fruit and we ate everything off of…

Canning Spaghetti Sauce.. with a victorio
Canning Spaghetti Sauce using a victorio It has been a LONG time since I have canned Spaghetti sauce and it is almost like having a baby.. okay not really but you forget how painful the process is! So, that is comparable to childbirth right? I ran out and bought a Victorio strainer because in my mind it would make the process so much easier then boiling the tomatoes and peeling the skin off right? Sure, if you want runny spaghetti sauce. I am a thick kind of girl.. I like things in my life to be “thick” I like my man with a little meat on his bones, I like…

After time you can start tweaking and modifying a recipe to make it the way you like it. I have oodles of tomatoes, jalapenos, peppers and onions growing in my garden so of course I am going to make Salsa with it!! Besides NO store bought salsa ever tastes as good as home made salsa. I found my recipe on food.com and it is very easy to follow. Print Zesty Salsa for Canning Author: Food.com Prep time: 30…
