Digital Books Great Gift Idea and a Fun Unique Family History project

This year My grandma turned 90, my grandpa turned 95, and it was their 70th wedding anniversary!  Wow, they had a few milestones accomplished!  With our extended family, we had already planned a reunion and celebration for our grandparents.  Our Family knew we need to have a special meaningful gift.  We decided to put together a Digital book for our grandparents.  There are so many great companies out there,  many of them offer $5 and $10 books, coupons , bogo offer and other deals.  For this book we used My publisher,  I had coupons and they were running a deal to get a second book printed.  If you are thinking of putting together a digital book, do a little search and find a deal.

My grandma loves family history.  We decided this would be the focus of our digital book.  Instead of a regular pedigree chart, this is a fun way to put family pictures, memories, stories, and recipes together.  The first thing we did was contact all of our Aunts, uncles, cousins, my grandparents nieces and nephews.  We asked them for current family pictures and any pictures they had with my grandparents.  We also asked them to include any stories or memories of my grandparents.  It took a little teeth pulling, but we were able to get many pictures and stories!  I learned so many different things about my grandparents, jobs they had, hobbies, community service.  It was really a great thing to get so many perspectives from different family members.

The next step was putting the book together.  We ended up using photo shop and other digital scrapbook programs that my sister owns. If you don’t own any of these programs, no worries! all of these digital book companies offer pre-done pages that you simply drop your pictures and text into.  They make it so simple!  We submitted our book to My publisher, it ended up being 53 pages long!  turn around time on printing and shipping  a digital book is 7-10 days!
