DIY Present Birthday Card with removable Hair Bow

I always love when a card has an interactive piece whether it sings a song or has a pop out,  It adds a little excitement to what was thought just to be a boring card.  For card group this month our theme is kid birthday cards,  Sometimes it is difficult to come up with fun and new ideas for a kids card.  I took a really simple idea of a present with a bow on the front of a card decided to turn the bow into a hair bow that can be removed from the card and worn.  So, don’t let this simple looking DIY Present Birthday Card with removable Hair Bow fool you into thinking it’s a boring old regular card.

To create the Present Birthday Card with removable Hair Bow you will need:

cardstock cut to 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches (base of the card)

designed scrapbook paper cut to 4 1/2 inches by 3 1/4 inches (I used scraps)

pop dots or foam (I used cardboard)

1/2 inch wide ribbon cut 1 at 5 inches and 1 at 3 3/4 inches

1/4 inch wide ribbon cut 4 at 6 inches

1/4 inch pre-cut circle of cardstock or felt

decorative jewel or brad

alligator hair clip

Ink

hot glue gun with glue

sentiment stamps

First you will fold in half the 8 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch piece of cardstock

 

Then you will hot your two pre cut 1/2 inch wide ribbon strips to the 4 1/2 inch by 3 1/4 inch piece of scrapbook paper.  Crossing the ribbons to make it look like a present.

Glue or add foam dots to the back side of your present looking rectangle.

 

Glue the present into the center of your folded cardstock card base.

You will make your hair bow by placing a small amount of hot glue in the center of your 1/4 inch cardstock or felt circle.

Then place the center of one of your 1/4 inch wide ribbons over the glue and repeat gluing the other 3 ribbons diagonally from each other.

Then place a small amount of glue in the center of the ribbons and bring 2 of the ends of ribbons and glue them in the center to create a loop.

Continue this until all ends and glued in the center and you have 8 loops creating a flower.

Glue a jewel or brad into the center of your flower hair bow.

Last hot glue an alligator style hair clip to the back of your flower hair bow.

Clip the flower hair bow over the crossed 1/2 in wide ribbons on your present rectangle.

Last stamp your choice of sentiment inside of your card.

Don’t forget to let the darling girls you give these cards to know that the bow is removable and can be worn!
