DIY Faux Ice Cream Toppers

I love finding new things to add to my tiered trays. For the cooler months I have a cute mug with a faux whipped topping in my trays. As summer came along it just didn’t seem like a topped mug fit the seasonal fruits and things I was placing in my trays. I found some cute ceramic ice cream cone bases at the store and knew I needed to come up with a way to make a faux ice cream topper.

To create your own Faux Ice Cream Toppers you will need:

Hallow plastic ball

lightweight spackle

frosting piping bag or tool

plastic knife

small saw or knife

Paint (if coloring is desired)

cardboard

scissors

hot glue gun/ glue

First you will saw in half your hallow plastic ball.

Next, trace around half of your ball onto cardboard. Cut out the cardboard circle leaving a 1/8″ larger than the ball. glue the half-cut ball onto the cardboard using your hot glue gun.

Take your knife and get a scoop of lightweight spackle onto the knife. Place the spackle onto the plastic ball and frost it like you would a cake until none of the plastic ball is showing through. Place lightweight Spackle into your frosting piping bag or tool. If desired You can color the lightweight Spackle by mixing paint in before your add it to the piping bag.

Using the piping bag pipe a ring around the edge of the frosted ball.

You can add glitter or embellishments if desired will spackle is still wet. Allow faux ice cream toppers to dry overnight.

To decorate with Faux ice cream toppers you could place several in a shallow bowl or on top of other plastic or ceramic dishes.

How will you use your faux ice cream toppers to decorate for summer?
