DIY Painted Holiday Doormats for the upcoming season

What is not to love about fun and funny Doormats?  Those first moments ringing the doorbell and waiting on someone’s doorstep is the first impression of what that family is like. While standing there I always look down and see what their choice in a doormat is.  Whether it’s a plain mat that stays out all year round or one that is changed for every season.  It gives me a glimpse of their personality.  Of course, I like to change my doormat out with every season, holiday, or anytime I can!  There are so many ideas for Holiday Doormats that  I decided to make several and give them out as Christmas gifts!  One of my favorite things about doormats is that there is a plain black doormat you can buy at the dollar store!!! Holiday Doormats are inexpensive to make and to give as gifts.

To create your own Painted Doormats for the Holidays you will need:

Plain colored doormats (I purchased mine at the dollar store)

freezer paper

paint (your choice of colors)

paint brushes

iron

personal cutting machine

Using your personal cutting machine you will want to create a design or wording to place on your doormat. Choosing 2 different holiday phases “Let it snow” and “Happy holla Days” was fun for me.  Purchasing a cut file from the silhouette design store for the let it snow phrase is easy for me! Next, I created the Happy holla days using different fonts.

After your design and size, your phrase cut your design onto freezer paper.  Using the freezer paper template center it on your rug and iron the freezer paper into place.

Paint the sections where the rug is exposed with desired paint colors.  Allow the paint to dry and then remove the freezer paper template.
