Family Tree cupcakes

If you have ever met my sister, you would find out very quickly she is a huge family history expert. She has worked for many family history companies, ran booths, conferences and has taught many classes. Not only does she work in the Genealogy and family history field it truly is her passion in life. I think it is amazing when you can combine work with something you love and are passionate about. Of course her love and passion is totally different than mine. I am sure by looking at this blog you know my love and passion is for all crafts and cooking. While I was flipping through one of my favorite cookbooks Hello Cupcake. I came across this great family tree cupcake idea. I instantly knew that I needed to make these cupcakes for my sisters birthday. Even thought I don’t share her passion for family history. I could use my own passion and skills to make something I knew she would enjoy and love. It was a perfect fit! One of my favorite things about the Hello cupcake books. They have great pictures and also templates to use.

I got to work, My cupcakes are not as amazing  as the ones in the book! I had a few challenges to work with. There are 7 Children in my family, yes you read that right 7! and most of us are married and have children of our own! Needless to say I had to create quite a few cupcakes! My next challenge was trying to figure out something large enough, strong enough, that I could display and transport these precious cupcakes to the party . I ended up using a large lid to a Tupperware bin. I water color painted the tree on a long roll of paper to match the size. I just used a regular boxed cake mix to make my cupcakes. Then I used and assortment of frosting, sprinkles, Skittles, M &M’s, Jelly beans, Cheetos, Pringles chips, Rolo’s, and Melting candy wafers. I tried to make the cupcake’s look like each person in my family. Even though this was a gift for my sister, she let each person eat themselves!
