Garage sale Headboard Redo

I love to garage sale.  Most Saturday mornings you can find me up at a 6:30 a.m. and out the door around 7:15 a.m. I love finding a good deal and quite honestly half of my home has come from someone elses home.   I picked up this beauty back the first part of June and it has sat in my garage SLOWLY getting painted.   I picked it up for $8.00 and it is SOLID WOOD.  So this baby is HEAVY!

My son wanted to earn some money so I had him sand it down (the best he could)  with all the detail it made it difficult so I had him just scuff the decorative dowels.   This ended up being a lot more time consuming than I thought.  I think I ended up with around five coats of paint on this when all was said and done.   It took a lot of primer and paint to cover the old dark wood.

Here is my before picture (please ignore how bad the quality of the first picture is.  I almost forgot to snatch a before picture back in June so I took this picture with my cell phone)

I felt like this was a steal  the people running the garage sale wanted to sell the bed as a set but I did not want the nasty old mattress and did not need a frame.. As soon as the wife went inside the house I hit the husband up for just the headboard and talked him down to $8.00  Sometimes men are easier to negotiate with 😉  He wanted it gone and I am sure his wife had some sort of sentimental attachment to it otherwise why would they hold onto such an old bed for so long..

The reveal….

I swear this baby looks like she just came out of a pottery barn catalog.. after many months of procrastinating, cussing it a few times and an annoyed husband prodding me to get it done because it was taking up space in his garage I completed it..

Might I say it looks DARLING in my daughter Samantha’s room!!!

and who says you can’t find a good deal at a garage sale???  total cost into this  $15.00
