Giant Burlap Stocking

Giant burlap stocking

I am still in love with burlap.  Everything is my home is rustic, burlap and gold.  I know it sounds like and odd combination, somehow it is working for me at least.  I saw a few ideas for giant stockings on pinterest,  I loved the idea of a giant stocking hanging on my door.  However all of the ideas I found were to cutesy for my décor taste.  I decided to take the idea and make it to fit my own decorating style.  I decided to use burlap as the base of my giant stocking.  I hand drew myself a large pattern out of paper.  I pinned my pattern to the burlap and cut out the stocking shape.  I knew I wanted a shabby chic or vintage style stocking.  I taped off stripes on my stocking shape and painted the burlap a cream color and applied a white glitter while the paint was wet.  After the paint dried I removed the tape and place right sides together and sewed around the edges of the stocking and finished the top opening.  I embellished the top of the stocking by ruffling some polka dot fabric and hot gluing it around the opening of the stocking I added some ribbons and a vintage broach to finish it off.  I loved how mine turned out, I also made one for Avry.  I stenciled a Damask pattern on her stocking instead of doing stripes.  The stocking is around 4′ tall and 24″ inches wide.  After I finished my stocking I decided to hand it on an inside door so that it wouldn’t get weathered.
