Hobby Lobby knock off Fireworks sign

while scrolling through social media one day, I came across an advertisement for some 4th of July decorations at Hobby Lobby.  They had a darling sign that said “fireworks” in the advertisement.  After looking more closely at the advertisement, I decide that the fireworks sign was actually a chalkboard that they had written the word on.  I knew I wanted to create something similar but, I wanted mine to be a long term piece that I could add to my seasonal decorations.

I decided to create a framed sign that looked like it was a chalkboard with writing but, use regular black paint and white vinyl to make it permanent.  To create the Hobby Lobby knock off Fireworks sign you will need some thin 1/4 inch plywood, lathing strips, black paint, red paint, white vinyl, wood glue.

You will want to cut your plywood 12″ by 24″ , I used a jig saw.

then you will cut 2 lathing strips at 24″ and another 2 lathing strips at 10″. These will become the frame for your sign.

you will paint the 12″ by 24″ plywood black and then paint all 4 lathing strips red.

while the paint is drying you can use your personal cutting machine to cut the word “Fireworks”.  I used the Janda “.   ” font and cut the wording 4″ tall by 17″ long.  I also cut several dashes 2″ tall and dots.  After the paint is dry you can use wood glue, hot glue, or a staple gun to attach the red lathing strips around the edges of the black plywood.  Once the red frame is attached center your Fireworks wording and apply it onto the board.  Last you can hand place the dash lines and dots around the Fireworks wording.

I am so please with how my Fireworks sign turned out.  I can’t wait to add it to my 4th of July décor to enjoy for many years to come.

I think it’s cute! I would add a set of Battery operated LED light string lights (Found in Wal-Mart) to lighten up the display and make it perfect for lighting up the evening! Thank you for sharing!
