Holiday Joy Blocks
Joy pedestal blocks
We actually made these Joy blocks about 18 months ago (yes in July) for our Super Saturday. We did a Christmas in July theme. My husband did an outstanding job of cutting out 20 of these sets. So overall he cut 50 individual blocks and bases. This was a super easy craft to do and to save on money I purchased an old wood crib at a garage sale. Yep, you heard me right a crib. Now I didn’t get a mattress with the crib so I didn’t have to worry about that part but I did get the metal frame which was thrown away almost as soon as I got home. The crib cost me $5.00 and I used the dowels in the crib for the center pieces of this project. At the craft stores you would have had to pay $3.00 to $5.00 per decorative dowel!! That is outrageous. For 20 sets it cost $5.00 for ALL the dowels. Although I thought it was pretty funny when I came home with a crib and he was scratching his head and wondering why?
For the round bases I literally walked around the house and found a cup that was the right size of base that I wanted then traced it onto 2″ pine. I used my first cut out as a template to trace the rest. Justin just cut pine blocks into 4″x4″ squares. We purchased the toppers also at a garage sale. We painted all pieces black, cut out some burlap and just used a stencil and some regular toll paint for the letters (The stencil was one my mom gave me many years ago). It was a quick project although instead of using liquid nails to put this all together I would have used the nail gun. Glue never holds up and these kept breaking apart until I finally nailed them.
Great gift to give also!
