Home for the holidays – My holiday home decor

Home for the holidays

Christmas is by far my favorite time of the year. It goes above and beyond any other holiday. Each year I spend hours decorating to bring the festive feeling inside my home. Here is a sneak peak inside of my home during the holidays

My time consuming tree. It is 12 ft tall but very large around. This tree was a steal at $100 in our local classifieds. I purchased it 3 years ago. I love this tree once up and decorated. It is done in lime greens and reds. Is is in my main family room.

Here is my mantle right next to the Christmas tree.

and my lighted garland going up my staircase:

This is my front entry sofa table all decorated!

Next is my 3 daughters tree. I have a bonus room above my garage which is literally my daughters’ domain- It is like another family room (with t.v. computer, and all their toys!) They have their own fun little tree. It has a “baked goods” theme, with Gingerbread, cupcakes & Ice cream ornaments. This tree is so fun to look at.

I used 3 different types of ribbon, polka dotted fabric, and lots of mesh! Blues, greens, purples and pinks fit my girls personalities!
Although, I’m a little sad that the top portion of the tree lights went out about 10 minutes before I took these pictures!

I found some matching ribbon and the matching tree skirt at Tai Pan. I love them!! too cute!

I have a family room in the basement of my home. It has a tree that holds all the old, home made ornaments from my children, ornaments given to me by my parents and ornaments that my spouse owned. It is the tree we gather around on Christmas morning to open presents. This tree also has many of the hallmark lights in motion ornaments. Including the city sidwalks, polar express etc. It is fun to watch this tree’s ornaments come alive with twirling, moving and playing music.

Here is my downstairs fireplace mantle. I did make all the stockings and they have been a joy to use every year!

My office tree consists of glass blown ornaments that were given to me by my mom & dad when I was growing up. I did ballet (on point) and so my mother collected ballerinas to give to me. I still love them to this day. It is a bit more elegant. All in white except with a few bronze accent bulbs.

My beloved village. This is the Department 56 North pole series. My ex mother in law has given me a piece to this village every year for the past 17 years. The village has grown over the years and my own mother picked up a piece or two. I have also found two pieces brand new in the boxes still at a garage sale for $15.00 (the owner obviously had no idea of their value) My village has grown and I now have 27 village pieces.

It takes me at least 4 or 5 hours every year to set this up and I have learned I have to do it when the kids are gone otherwise it turns into an 8 hour job. I leave this up from Thanksgiving clear until February because I love how wonderful it looks. It makes me smile to see the little village pieces all lit up.

I have the village set up above my cabinets in my kitchen. The villages that have motion or movement are the one’s I keep on the counter window ledge above my kitchen sink so everyone can see them. My daughters love to pick their favorites and when they were younger they would take their peek a boo dolls and pretend they were their homes. The memories surrounding this village are so wonderful for me.

It has taken years of collecting, years of shopping AFTER christmas for the deals, and years of repainting & repairing garage sale finds to craft up my home for the holidays! Tomorrow I’ll show you my front porch and a few of my other favorite items in my home. Happy Holidays!
