How Sweet it is sign

sweet sign

As you know I was commissioned by a good friend to help with her daughter’s wedding.  I created this Family name bracket board sign for the lovely couple.  I was also given the assignment of making a sign that said “HOW SWEET IT IS”  They wanted the sign to be used as a backdrop for the sweets bar that would be served at the reception.  I took on the task of making this large fun sign.  I have a large mirror in the formal living room of my home, many years ago I created a vintage frame for this mirror.  I knew I would be able to remove the frame from the mirror.  I planned on making this mirror frame the outline for the Rustic sweets sign.  I knew that this How Sweet it is sign would need to be large enough and stable to fit inside of the frame.  I went through my scrap wood pile and for some reason I came back to the scrap pieces of wood flooring I had.  This leftover wood flooring is real wood, pre-cut, and easy to put together.  I glued and put pieces together until I reached my desired size.  Next I stained the backside of the wood flooring a dark walnut color.  I let the stain cure for a few days.  Then using my personal cutting machine, I created a templet with the wording “HOW SWEET IT IS”.  I used a very basic simple font, I didn’t want the font to over power the large sign.  I centered and attached the template to the wooden board.  I painted the wording using a white wall paint.  I removed the template before the paint was dry.  This will give your project less bleeding.  I was amazed at how simple and fast this large sign came together.

We hung the sign with my mirror frame and then added some mason jar lights around it.  It was the perfect backdrop for the goodie table at the wedding.
