Large Snowflake Marquee

Snowman series

Large Snowflake Lighted Marquee
Yep! I am going to say I am NOT ready for the holidays to be over. Taking down 2 of my trees made me sad as I  always get a little down after the hype of the holidays is over. So, this year I wasn’t going to let my house look so drab after the Christmas decor’ was done. So, I decided to do a theme in my home for the month of January of snowmen and snowflakes! Join me this week as Krystal and I share a few fun whimsical winter ideas with you!

First snowflake share of the series is this Large Snowflake that has been pinned oodles of times on Pinterest with awesome instructions. I haven’t seen anyone else recreate it though… so hubby and I did!
Starting off I didn’t want to run all over town to get the template enlarged so I pulled it up on my computer and hooked it up to my projector. From there I traced the snowflake onto my wood with a pencil. Now, I also enlarged my snowflake a tad bit bigger than hers so mine ended up being around 4’x 4′
Snowflake Stencil

Don’t you love my awesome set up in the basement on the floor! Hey, whatever works right? We made sure we lined up two sides so it meant less cutting.

We drilled holes inside each triangle so you can get the jigsaw down inside to cut them out. Now this part was time consuming especially since he made two of these snowflakes. (One for myself and one for Krystal) Once the snowflake was all cut out he drilled holes exactly how the diagram showed and we painted these babies white!
Snowflake JigContemplating doing glitter on the snowflake but I am still sweeping up glitter from my Christmas mess! Just loving how it turned out. Also, so happy to still have winter in my home after the hype of the holidays is over. I couldn’t bite the bullet and pay for the pearl lights so my husband found some white Christmas lights on clearance at Lowe’s for .75 cents a box and I was sold. I hate putting a lot of money into a craft. I also wanted the plugin lights instead of battery operated lights because I could plug them into a timer and never have to turn them on or off or deal with the cost of batteries in the long run! They will turn on by themselves.

Snowflake edge

My mantle is not decorated around the snowflake it may look a little plain but you get the overall effect. I also need to cover up that ugly outlet! I am sure I can get creative with that. Overall I love the soft glow of the light behind the snowflake and enjoy this new addition to my living room!
