Ombre’ Red White and blue Patriotic July Star
I am thrilled to show you how to make this Ombre’ Red, White and Blue Patriotic July Star. The entire month of July is patriotic in Utah and Idaho. Not only because of the 4th of July but also because we celebrate Pioneer day on the 24th of July. Pioneer day is a state holiday in Utah and is treated much like the 4th of July so for us it isn’t over after the 4th.. our patriotic month is only beginning.
We tend to craft Patriotic crafts all month long! If you are one of our awesome followers you might remember back in February when we made this fun Ombre’ heart out of wood flooring scraps. To make painting easy and to achieve the Ombre’ look we took 4 pieces of wood flooring and hooked them together. Using the tongue and groove that is already part of each wood piece. You can use whatever wood scraps or pieces that you have. Or you can go purchase some wood. But the wood flooring gave us the grooves between the Ombre’ paint. Once together we glued them into place, traced a star on the wood then cut it out using the jig saw.
Once it was all cut we painted each slat a different color (Red, white and blue). After the star was completely dry we sanded the entire star really well, including the edges. Once sanding is done then you can glaze it with a brown glaze (brown paint watered down). This gives the star a rustic look.
Turned out so fun! I love the look of the Ombre’ Paint.
