Painted Rustic Wooden Patriotic Star and Stripe Tags
A few months ago my husband was building a lemonade stand for our daughter. He had used dog eared fencing to create the base and roof of the stand. He ended up cutting off the dog eared sections and ask if I wanted to save or use them for a craft project. Well, I’m kind of a craft supply hoarder and I added them into my wood pile stash. Last week as I was looking through the woodpile I had that moment where I saw the fence boards and knew exactly what they could be used for! Tags! Yes, wooden tags! I have been seeing so many different ideas with wooden tags. I just needed to decide how I wanted to paint them. With the 4th of July right around the corner, I knew it would be perfect to create some patriotic themed tags. I saw an idea for some similar Painted Rustic Wooden Patriotic Star and Stripe Tags but, the link was broken, I would love to give the original person credit.
To create your own Painted Rustic Wooden Patriotic Star and Stripe Tags you will need:
Wood Tags from fence boards or tags cut to 8″ by 4″ size
drill
paint (white, red, navy)
sandpaper
painters tape
rope
star template
embellishments
glue gun and hot glue
To start you will want to find the center top of your tag and mark placement to drill a hole, mark your placement and drill a hole into your tag.
Paint one tag white and one Navy and allow time to dry.
While your tags are drying you can find a star template online or design and cut out your own. After your tags are dry place the star templet into the center of your navy color tag, then paint the star white.
Tape stripes vertically down your white tag and then paint red stripes, pull off tape and templates and allow to completely dry.
Once dry sand edges and across the tags to give them a rustic look.
Use metal embellishments such as a washer and glue around the hole in your tag, place desired length of ribbon or rope through the hole and tie off.
I love that I was able to create these Painted Rustic Wooden Patriotic Star and Stripe Tags from scrap items I already had on hand.
