Painting tips and tricks plus Home Depot Giveaway

Painting Tips and Ideas plus Giveaway

It’s spring!! And with spring comes a little spring cleaning. I don’t know about you but a fresh coat of paint always lightens things up in the home and makes a room feel much cleaner. So, with the desire to make my home look a little more fresh I decided to tackle a neglected room in my home by painting it! I have 3 family rooms in my home and one of them is above my garage it is also known as a “bonus room” but it is on the upper level of my home and in the same area as my three daughters bedrooms. My three daughters live in this room. The use the computer, they watch t.v., they hang out with their friends etc. I even had a second washer and dryer put into a closet in this room so they could do their own laundry upstairs. So, they live in this room but it is a room that I rarely look at. It is upstairs away from the hustle and bustle of my life therefore, it has been neglected.
I decided it was time for a mini make over. Let me mention that I LOVE color. Although the trend right now is Grey and White I am the type of person to march to my own beat of the drum. Did I mention I LOVE color? Color adds so much personality to a home plus it shows what kind of personality my family has. So, I’m off to redo this room!

Here is my before picture (please remember I have 3 tween/teen daughters)

After I got looking I realized the most important part before I start painting is to CLEAN! I used the Swiffer Sweeper on my walls and ceiling to get rid of all the cobwebs and dust.   A Swiffer® Sweeper with a dry sweeping cloth works really well – it attracts dirt and dust from virtually any surface, including walls. The head swivels a full 360 degrees, making it easy to move around corners and the pole allows for easy floor to ceiling reach. Don’t forget the baseboards, windows and doorways, too.  I then used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to remove all the scuff marks from my walls.

Once everything was wiped down and clean I masked off my walls with painters tape.  I also laid down a plastic drop cloth to protect my carpet.   When painting start with the ceiling first, then move to the walls and last of all the trim.  In my project I just did the walls but I wanted to make sure everything was protected against drips and spills of paint.  You can become a pro by visiting the Home Depot website for more painting tips and ideas!

I went to Home Depot and picked out a pumpkin colored orange to paint my main wall with. I love how it turned out! I then decided to go one step further and get a little creative. I found an image online of a tree that I liked, used my projector to project the image up on the wall and once my paint was dry started tracing my image with chalk.
In this next picture you can see the image projected on my painted wall along with some of the chalk tracing I did.

After I traced the image I then began to fill in the leaves/tree with white paint. (I had painted with a small brush) If I didn’t go outside of the lines then once the paint was dry the chalk will wipe right off with a wet cloth. Or you can paint right over the chalk!

Here is my finished painted wall!

Here is a close up of the painted tree- I am in love with how cute it turned out!
