Shamrock Glass Gem Jewelry
Shamrock Glass Gem Jewelry
This really isn’t a new concept at all. I just tweaked another way to use these. Remember about 8-10 years ago, it was really popular to glue scrapbook paper on the back of these jems and add a magnet? Totally the same thing here! I just stepped it up a notch and made them into something wearable. If you looking for a fun St. Patrick’s Day craft to do with your kids or tweens. Add this to your list, It is really simple inexpensive and I’m sure they will be proud to wear their new creation on St. Patrick’s Day. Plus you may just use some of those scraps or scrapbooking paper you have been hoarding!!!
You can also use my chipboard jewelry method, if you are unable to get glass gems. I did notice the glass gems may be a little heavy for my 6 year old. I will make her a set of chipboard earrings. The necklace works great for her.
First gather your supplies. I went though my scrap paper supply. You won’t need very much paper for this. Gather a variety of patterned papers. You will also need glass Gems, I purchased my bag at the dollar store. Jump rings, earring hooks, 1′ paper punch or you can hand cut. I also used my silhouette machine to cut out the shamrocks. You could hand cut shamrocks, stamp, or print and image. Tacky glue, and E6000 glue.
Cut your shamrocks and punch circles from desired paper
Using the tacky glue. Glue the shamrocks onto your punched circle
Apply a thin layer of E6000 glue onto your Gems, then push Gems on top of shamrock circles. Punch more circles out of thick cardstock for a backing.
Apply another thin layer of E6000 over the 1st shamrock circle you placed on the Gem, then add a jump ring to the top of the shamrock layer and sandwich with the heavy card stock backing. Allow to completely dry.
After your glue is dry. Open the earring hook ends using some nose tip pliers. Loop the earring hook, through the glued on ring. Then close the earring hook end using the pliers again. Now your have a set of earrings.
Next open one of the jump rings using the pliers. Loop the open jump ring through the glued on ring. Then close the jump ring using the pliers again. String a chain through this loop for your necklace.

What a cute idea!
I even have a little supply of those glass beads that I’ve had tucked away in my craft box for years – I had no idea what to do with them. Thank you!
