The benefits of being a homeowner

My husband and I built our home a little over two years ago and the building process was amazing. We have built several homes but hopefully this one is our final home until we retire. I love having a newer home because of the low maintenance. I have owned an older home in the past and I felt like we were constantly repairing something or another on that home. The expense of the up keep got overwhelming at times. With a new home you don’t have to worry about something breaking down or needing fixed.

I have also paid rent in the past and love the benefits owning my own home instead of renting. By owning my own home I get to choose what goes into my home. I can paint the walls any color I want, I can change out the carpet, lighting and fixtures on the walls. I also love having a yard to plant a garden, trees and flowers. By being a homeowner I have more privacy then I do with renting. I can fence in my yard and have a barbeque with my friends or family without interuption from any neighbors. I also love being able to open my back door and let my dog run free in my fenced in yard.

With owning a home I also like knowing that I am building equity instead of throwing away my money on rent. I like knowing that my home is an investment and that historically most home owners get a return on their investment. Also, in some cases depending on the type of home you choose it could cost less than renting.
