Planning a Luau Party

My three daughters have birthdays within a month of one another so this year I combined the girls birthday and did a Luau.
There are so many ideas, printables and recipes I used that I may break this post down into multiple posts to give you some instructions on how I did things. But here is a preview of the day!

I hollowed out the pineapples with a pineapple corer and put fruit dip in them. I will post the pineapple fruit dip in a later post.

Yes I made the cupcakes, frosted them and decorated them (along with 2 of my daughters) Someone thought I had bought them from the store.. I was a bit taken back by that – note I only purchase cupcakes if I am desperate 99% of the time I make my own.

My printables for the cupcakes were found at HowDoesShe.com via chickabug.com (just for the cupcake toppers) I added Flowershaped card stock behind each printable to add some color and firmness to my printable. I then glued each topper to a sucker stick using craft glue and when the cupcakes were frosted I pushed the toppers into the center of each cupcake.

I frosted the cupcakes with a frosting kit I bought with my 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby. It came with several tips and was only $7.99.

Next I had heard of someone doing a shark out of watermelon before so I googled “shark out of watermelon” and found a similar picture of a shark make from watermelon. I looked at the picture a few times and set out to carve my own. My only advice on this is to pick a more oblong shaped watermelon rather than a round one. It didn’t sit up as pretty as the one I had a picture of but I tried to improvise as much as possible. I would also let the juice run out of it over night before refilling it with watermelon as it made my bluberries somewhat soft and mushy. I put blueberries around the base to make it look like water.

I also used a peeler to shave back the teeth to make them look white. It was time consuming but was the talk of the party!

Of course we had to have some Bahama Mama drinks and Hawaiian Lemonade with some fun straws to go along with it! I will post the recipes I used for the drinks on another post

If people did not want Bahama Mama’s or Hawaiian punch I took bottled water and removed the labels. I printed out my own water bottle printables on How does she and used packing tape to tape them around the bottles. I then used raffia and tied a small pouch of crystal light to each water bottle. The labels on the front of the water bottles said “A taste of summer” Thanks to all those who provide free printables online it makes it so much fun to dress something up!

The Hawaiian Lemonade was the popular drink! It was gone fast!

I made steak and pork kabobs – and apparently I didn’t make enough because everyone wanted 3 or 4!! they were tasty!

My stallion of a husband came through for me and made a Limbo out of PVC pipe for the kids!! and of course he turned up the Bob Marley tunes! What a fun day we had!!

A special Thank you to my sister Tiffany for letting me borrow her shark slide, The Casey’s for the bounce house, Kaylynn for the extra decorations, my mother (Gladys) for her help in preparing food and making a frog eyed salad!! Last but not least to Krystal for her tables, chairs and pineapple corer! It wouldn’t have been so successful without all the help!
