Watermelon Door Hanger

Summer days are winding down and coming to a close. I am ready for the cooler temperatures and a better fall routine. But, I have been loving all the trendy fruit decor and bright colors to decorate with. Before it’s officially over I’ve had a few more summer theme projects to finish up. One of the projects I’ve been wanting to create was a watermelon door hanger. We found some 16″ pre-cut wood rounds at a yard sale a while back. I kept thinking if we cut them in half they would be darling watermelon door hangers. Finally, Avry and I were able to get our craft mojo going and create these cute door hangers.

To create your own Watermelon Door Hanger you will need:

Wood Round cut in half (ours measure 16″)

Paint (Red, Green, White)

Paint brushes

Wire

Drill

Variety of Ribbons

scissors

Vinyl (white and black)

personal cutting machine

Hot glue gun/glue

Start by painting your watermelon shape Red and allow for dry time.

After your shape in dry, paint the 1″ outer edge of the watermelon green and let dry.

Last you can be creative and paint a small white line or white stripes along the green rind.

While your watermelon is drying using your personal cutting machine design and cut several black seeds about 1″ size. Also design and cut the saying “Sweet Summertime” in white vinyl.

After your watermelon is dry Place the black vinyl seeds along the red section of the watermelon.

Center and place the “sweet summertime” wording over the black vinyl seeds.

Next drill 2 holes in the top corners of the watermelon shape. Thread the wire through the holes, leaving enough at the top to hang on a door hook. Use pliers to bend and secure the wire in place.

Then take several strands of different ribbons and layer them together to create a junk bow. Attach the junk bow to the top corner of the watermelon using hot glue.

Now you are ready to welcome guests into your home with a fun end of summer watermelon door hanger.
