DIY Wooden Fish Bundle

Diy wooden fish bundle

I have a little picket fence on my porch that I usually hang signs or various things on throughout the year.  It was feeling a little plain and I was debating on if I should put it away for the summer.  I came across these fish nets at the dollar store and began thinking how cute they would be draped over that little picket fence.  Then my creative juices started flowing.  I thought I could come up with some kind of beach sign and hang a bundle of fish over the fence.

I went through my wood scrap pile and found all of these pieces of redwood fencing, the pieces aren’t very big they measure between 5 and 6 inches long and about 5 inches wide.  I free-handed 2 fish on each board, then using my Skill saw cut around the fish shape.  This took all of 10 minutes to draw and cut 6 fish out.  It really is easy to use the Skill saw and the fish don’t need to have perfect or straight lines.

Next I painted all the fish a teal color and let them dry, after they were day I painted over the teal color with white, light blue and coral colors.  I let the 2nd coat of paint dry and then sanded off the edges to reveal the teal color and some of the wood.  Last I used the drill to make a hole where the eye of the fish would be and then strung some jute through the hole and tied the jute together to make a bundle of fish!

This was such a simple project to help update my porch area for summer.  What projects are you working on this summer?
